The first Barbie doll, named Barbie Ponytail, appeared on 9th March 1959. She was first shown by makers Mattel at the New York toy fair. Her full name is Barbara Millicent Roberts and she comes from Wisconsin. Hundreds of millions of Barbies have been sold all around the world over the fifty years.
